Puppy Recall Field in Essex
Teach your puppy to come back, somewhere they can't run off.
You've got a new puppy and big plans: long walks, off lead adventures, a dog who comes back every time you call. But right now, letting go of the lead in an open space feels like a gamble.
Recall is one of the most important things your puppy will learn, and it's easiest to practise somewhere safe, quiet and secure.

What gets in the way of recall training
The surprise dog. Just as your puppy is getting it, another dog appears and every bit of focus disappears with it.
The open gate. In a park, there's always a path, a road or a gap in the hedge, so you never dare let go of the lead.
The distractions. Joggers, bikes, children and squirrels. Too much going on for a young dog to concentrate.
So the training stalls, and the off lead freedom you both want keeps slipping further away.
A safe place to practise
We know that feeling. It's why we fenced our first field for our own dog, Fudge, in 2019.
Every Foxes Farm Fields location is fully fenced with double gated entry, and the field is yours alone for the session. No other dog in your field, fewer distractions and room to practise recall at your puppy's pace.
With 12 locations across Essex, there's likely one near you:
- South Essex: Basildon Fields A, B, C and D.
- East London and Havering: Upminster Fields A, B and C, plus a leaded walking trail.
- Colchester area: Eight Ash Green, Colne Engaine, Great Bromley and the Paw Patch.
How it works
- Pick your field.
- Book a slot online.
- Open the gate, practise recall and let them play.
At Basildon and Upminster, 25 minute sessions are £10, which is ideal for short puppy training sessions. 55 minute sessions are £15 on weekdays and £16 at weekends. At Eight Ash Green, Colne Engaine and Great Bromley, sessions are 55 minutes, £13 on weekdays and £15 at weekends.
Tips for your first recall sessions
- Keep sessions short and fun. 25 minutes is plenty for a young puppy.
- Bring tasty treats and a favourite toy.
- Use a long line at first, then let go once your puppy is coming back reliably.
- Call once, in a happy voice, and reward every return.
- Finish on a win, before your puppy gets tired.
Make sure your puppy has finished their vaccinations and is ready to go out, and check with your vet if you're unsure.
